The key benefits of cold milling

Precision

Cold milling machines are capable of removing nearly any type of material in layers and at precisely the specified depth, granulating the material at the same time.

First-class raw material

The milled material produced by the cold milling operation is a valuable raw material that is used for the production of new asphalt mixes in hot or cold mixing plants. Cold milling machines therefore play a key role in the economically efficient recycling of road construction materials.

The milled material is also eminently suitable for reuse in trench construction, owing to its excellent compaction properties and good bearing capacity. The milled material is simply left in the trench, dispensing with the costs for new material and for transporting it to the job site.

Short construction time

Cold milling machines are capable of working on narrowly pegged-out construction sites, with traffic flowing uninterrupted on the adjacent lane. In this way, traffic disruptions are kept to a minimum.

A new pavement can be laid down as soon as the milling operation has been completed. This method is also called "mill and fill". It shortens construction times and increases the overall economic efficiency.

Efficiency

A special application in cold milling is the so-called fine milling operation. This highly efficient method restores uneven or slippery road surfaces to even pavements with excellent skid resistance. Fine milling can also be used to roughen the pavement, preparing it for the application of a thin pavement layer. This results in an excellent bond between the new layer and the existing road pavement.

Cold milling machines give the road surface the desired properties in one single pass, in which typically just a few millimetres of the pavement are removed. The road can be reopened to traffic immediately afterwards. There is simply no more economically efficient way!

Fine milling is mostly applied on road pavements and airports but is also eminently suitable for economical use on other traffic surfaces or indoor pavements.
