Recycle complete lanes in a single pass: Wirtgen 2200 CR now on offer with 3.80 m working width

Exceptional flexibility has always been a hallmark of the 2200 CR: the four-tracked cold recycler with a standard working width of 2.20 m for the in-situ cold recycling of roads is capable not only of recycling the pavement material but also of placing the recycled mix again immediately by means of an integrated paving screed. Both water-cement slurry and bitumen emulsion or foamed bitumen can be added to the recycling process. In addition, the high-performance cold recycler can also be operated as a road milling machine.

The 2200 CR is now available with a milling and mixing drum unit featuring a working width of 3.80 m and a milling drum capable of working in the direction of travel, that is, in the so-called down-cutting mode.

Extra-wide working width boosts efficiency

The advantages of the wider working width are quite obvious: complete traffic lanes can be rehabilitated quickly and economically in a single machine pass. This results in an effective reduction not only of the machine’s on-site time but also of the related operating costs in large-scale rehabilitation projects. The new drum assembly offers a maximum working depth of 150 mm for the recycling of damaged asphalt layers. The 2200 CR is equipped with a spreading auger and Vögele paving screed type AB 375 T, enabling it to place and pre-compact the recycled mix immediately in an in-situ process.

With regard to the addition of binding agents, the new 2200 CR model offers the full range of options in cold recycling: the microprocessor-controlled injection system is capable of drawing water, hot bitumen for the production of foamed bitumen, and bitumen emulsion from a preceding tanker truck, injecting it in precisely metered quantities into the mixing chamber of the 2200 CR.

Down-cutting and up-cutting in a single machine

The down-cutting process, in which the drum of the 2200 CR rotates in the machine’s direction of travel, permits better control of the size of the milled asphalt material. In certain markets, this requirement is sometimes part of the tender specification. By simply exchanging the drum gearbox, the 2200 CR is easily converted to work in up-cutting mode whenever required.

The new 2200 CR with 3.80 m working width and down-cutting feature has successfully operated in several in-situ cold recycling projects in the North American market. In addition, there is further potential for use also in other road construction markets, for instance, in Europe. The dual machine design also applies to the new 2200 CR model: the unit can be converted to a road milling machine at any time to ensure high machine utilization.

In-situ cold recycling in the United States using a 2200 CR: the milling and mixing drum assembly now offers a working width of 3.80 m, which permits one lane of this federal road to be rehabilitated in a single working pass.

With the new down-cutting feature, the milling drum of the 2200 CR rotates in the direction of travel, achieving precise control of the size of the milled asphalt material.
